Housing Counseling
HACE's housing counseling program has helped
- More than 1700 first time home buyers, tenants, and homeowners resolve their housing problems citywide since 1991.
- Staff link residents to social and health services provided by neighboring organizations.
- Serve as a comprehensive resource for its target area.
- Prepare its own tenants for homeownership so that we can be a continuing resource for residents' increasing self-sufficiency and economic empowerment.
Economic Development
- Initiatives to create jobs and improve commercial services in its neighborhood.
- Work with housing constituents to find appropriate jobs through development activities.
- The Neighborhood Main Street Initiative implements and coordinates private and public resources for economic development empowerment for the entire community. It is based on comprehensive, incremental and carefully coordinated work in five areas: organization, promotion, design, economic restructuring, and safety and sanitation. It provides technical assistance in fund-raising strategies, marketing, loan packaging, personnel management, licensing and other technical areas.
- La Plaza, a 25,000+ square foot retail and office building at 3100-24 N. 5th Street, with extensive off-street parking, will extend and anchor the 5th Street commercial corridor where HACE's initial development took place.
- HACE Management Company, the first non-profit CDC-owned property management company in the region, was set into motion on July 1, 1997. It assumed the management duties of HACE's projects consisting of 272 residential units and 17,000 square feet of commercial space. It has created sixteen full-time jobs and anticipates further employment opportunites for community residents.
